Through its Division of Astrophysics, the Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais - INPE) participates in the organization of the 6th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics - IOAA, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, from August 4 to 14, 2012.

The Olympiad is an annual event in which high school students from around the world solve theoretical, analytical and observational problems in the fields of astronomy and astrophysics. In 2012, the event is coordinated by Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ) in partnership with other institutions.
