on Climate Change

Monday, May 28, 2012

From May 27 to June 1 in Natal (RN), the impacts and vulnerabilities of the Northeastern Brazil to climate change have been discussed during an international symposium promoted by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte Graduate Program in Climate Sciences (PPGC/UFRN) in partnership with the Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais - INPE).

The symposium brings together scientists and graduate students from participating institutions and scientific community in general, fostering two-way knowledge advancement and transfer by inspiring national and international cooperation activities with a focus on human resource formation related to the area of Climate Sciences in Brazil.

According to organizers, it is expected an atmosphere of discussions aimed at raising the studies on possible climate change impacts for adaptation, vulnerability and mitigation.

"It will be discussed the main issues arising from the relation between environment and health through Round Tables, plenary sessions and invited oral contributions by established international and national scientists," said Neusa Paes Leme, a researcher at the Northeastern Regional Center of INPE, based in Natal.

The event will cover five themes: Ocean-Atmosphere Interaction; Extreme Events and the Coastal, Tropical, Semi-Arid Regions; Observing the Atmosphere and the Ocean: in situ & satellite techniques; Climate Modelling; e Environmental and Social Mitigation Measures and Adaptation.
