I ran into Randa Relich and Rod Milliron in Mountain View last night. Interorbital Systems’ CEO and President were in town for the Google Lunar X Prize Summit being held at the SETI Institute. The Mojave-based rocket company is part of the Synergy Moon Team.

Randa and Rod were in a happy mood, having just booked a batch of new payloads for their N30 launcher. The company has sold out payload space on its first orbital launch (see below) and is filling up the manifest for its second vehicle. The rockets will be launched off the California coast early next year.

They also told me that Red Bull Stratos and Rick Tumlinson’s SpaceDiver projects have some competition. World-renowned skydiver Olav Zipser plans to set a new altitude record by jumping off Interorbital’s SR 145 rocket. The current record of 102,800 feet is held by Joe Kittinger.

These include academic, arts, private-sector, military, and corporate groups from the US, Peru, Mexico, Singapore, Chile, Brazil, India, Hungary, Japan, Germany, Pakistan, New Zealand, the Dominican Republic, Holland, and France.

Comentário: Bom leitor, essa notícia confirma o lançamento do veículo lançador “N30” da Interorbital Systemas da costa da Califórnia (EUA), com o UBATUBASAT brasileiro abordo nos primeiros meses de 2012, e não mais nesse ano. Além disso, outros dois pontos importantes em nossa opinião que devem ser destacados é que essa missão americana levará também quatro missões de equipes ligadas ao Google Lunar X Prize (as equipes "GLXP Team EuroLuna",“GLXP Team STELLAR”,”GLXP Team SYNERGY MOON” e “GLXP Team Part-Time Scientists”). O segundo ponto a ser destacado é que segundo o último parágrafo do artigo, aparentemente já existe um outro grupo brasileiro buscando fundos para o lançamento de uma carga útil através da Interorbital. Quem será esse grupo? Hummm, teremos de aguardar para sabermos. Em breve, estaremos publicando uma entrevista com o líder do Projeto UBATUBASAT, o professor Cândido Moura, fique atento.
