Leonel Perondi is the New INPE's Director

The appointment of Fernando Leonel Perondi as Director of the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais - INPE) was published in the Official Gazette on Monday (5/14). He replaces Gilberto Câmara, head of the institute since December 2005. The date of the new Director inauguration is not defined yet.

Graduated in Mechanical-Aeronautical Engineering from Aeronautics Technology Institute (Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica – ITA), Leonel Perondi is a master in Space Engineering and Technology from INPE and PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Oxford.

Perondi has been working at INPE since 1982, acting as General Coordinator of Space Engineering and Technology (Engenharia e Tecnologia Espacial-ETE) from 2002 to 2004 and has managed the Brazil-China satellites CBERS from 2002 to 2005. He was also deputy Director between 2001 and 2005, year that he was hired as General Director. From 2007 to 2011, has served as member of the INPE’s Scientific Technical Council.
