The new edition of GLP NEWS has been fully edited by the International Project Office (IPO) of the Global Land Project recently installed at the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais - INPE) in São José dos Campos (SP). The publication is available at the website: www.globallandproject.org

This issue (NO. 8) contains papers relating to the workshop "Land Use Transitions in South America," which was conducted by GLP and INPE in Ilhabela, November 2011, as well as other recent papers of leading experts in global land use transitions.

The International Project Office (IPO) of GLP has operated jointly to the Earth System Science Center (Centro de Ciência do Sistema Terrestre - CCST) at INPE.

Aimed at studying interaction between man and terrestrial environment for a better scientific understanding of global change, the Global Land Project (GLP) is a joint research agenda of International Geosphere–Biosphere Programme IGBP and International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP).
