Committee for Space Standards
to Meet at INPE

Thursday, May 03, 2012

Brazil hosts this month the 22th Plenary Meeting of the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) subcommittee dedicated to the space sector. ISO is an organization that develops international standards in several areas of technology.

The working group meetings will take place at the Integration and Testing Laboratory (Laboratório de Integração e Testes - LIT) of the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais - INPE) between May 14 and 16, in São José dos Campos, whereas the plenary meeting itself will be held on May 17, in Campos do Jordão.

ISO TC 20 Subcommittee 14 “Space Systems and Operations” – a global forum for the standardization of Space Technologies – meets for the second time in Brazil (the first one was in 2001). More than 120 experts from different countries are expected.

The meeting has the support and participation of international organizations and space companies such as NASA, ESA, ROSCOMOS, CNES, JAXA, CAST, and is coordinated by the Space Subcommittee of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (Associação Brasileira de Normas Técnicas - ABNT), which is based at LIT/INPE.
